The Earths atmosphere is divided into 5 layers such as, troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere. All layers have division between them.

Division between each layer of atmosphere:

Tropopause - divides the troposphere and stratosphere.

Stratopause - divides the stratosphere and mesosphere

Mesopause - divides the mesosphere and thermosphere

Thermpause - divides thermosphere and exosphere

Why are sedimentary rocks more useful than metamorphic or igneous rocks in establishing the relative ages of rock?   Because sedimentary rocks are made of sediment. They do not record time very well unless connected to a known geological incident. And metamorphic rocks are rocks that changed form or composition through some natural or unnatural process.
